Emerson
made its first sales in Korea in the early 1980s,
and in 1988 established a formal presence with the
opening of Fisher-Rosemount Korea
Ltd., followed by Branson Ultrasonics in 1992. In
1994, Emerson Electric Korea Co., Ltd. was established
to manage the company's rapidly diversifying interests
in that nation. Emerson is currently represented in
Korea by around 10 divisions across a broad spectrum
of industries. Business offices are primarily located
in Seoul.
During this time, Emerson's sales have grown rapidly,
especially in the process control and domestic appliance
market, with Copeland quickly establishing itself
as the dominant supplier of compressors for air-conditioners
and refrigerators, and the complete range of process
automation offerings of EPM, the process automation
offerings of Emerson Process Management Korea.
In-country manufacturing is currently limited to partial
assembly of certain products by Emerson Process Management's
Rosemount Measurement and Branson. However, consistent
with its aggressive plans elsewhere in the region
and worldwide, Emerson is seeking active participation
in high-tech industries including semiconductors and
telecommunications equipment. Emerson is actively
exploring opportunities to begin a deeper level of
manufacturing-based involvement in the Korean economy.
